The forums have gotten too quiet lately. Me and a guildy as well as my brother were recently discussing the longreaching Final Fantasy series. I thought it might be fun to rank all of the Final Fantasy games - as well as share any stories or anything BESTFinal Fantasy 6 Final Fantasy 7 Final Fantasy Tactics Final Fantasy 8 Final Fantasy X2 Final Fantasy 4 Final Fantasy 9 Final Fantasy 10 Final Fantasy 12 Final Fantasy 5 Final Fantasy 1 LEAST BESTNow, I need to mention that even though some of the games ranked lower on that list, I loved each of those games, especially at their own time. Also, I set a personal goal of replaying each of those games, in order, a few years ago when they all became available on Playstation. The thing about the replaying was that I did everything possible in the games as I went. I got every optional boss. Every ultimate weapon. Unlocked/completed all of the mini-games. Maxed out stats. Maxed out levels. Ive gotten as far as Final Fantasy 9 now... Starting to play WoW several years ago started sucking all of my time.

FF6 > FF Tactics Series > FF7 > all other FFs > FF12 Revenant Wings I only played the standard Final Fantasy games up to FF8, and then kinda lost interest and started playing a lot more PC games (almost exclusively). I grew up a Dragon Warrior fanboi, and was fairly hostile of FF games until 6 came out. I actually never played FF4, and haven't played FF9-present except for the DS version of FF12 (which isn't fair, it's a real time strat game and only the lore matches FF12). I still play and enjoy FF tactics though nothing can touch that combat system. From your post you look like a huge FF fan....why no FF11? Did you ever try it out? I'm also not surprised that you'd go for the extreme 100% completion of every game...it's scary, but I think half this guild doesn't view 100% completion as an achievement, but the only option to play the game

I am in-fact a huge FF fan. There is something about online FF that kinda rubs me the wrong way. It just doesnt feel right. No, I never did try it - which is why I resisted the urge to actually insult or degrade it in my post. As for the completions... Yeah. There is something about having 5 mastered Master Materia of every variety (colour?) or killing 1000000000 cactaurs to use the junctioning abilities to raise Squalls speed to max. or Getting Cloud in Tactics and unlocking all of his abilities and making sure he has the Zodiac summon, ect.

The first FF game I played was FF6 on the SNES and I fell in love with the series. I hate to try to rank them but I'd say the one I least enjoyed was FF1 when I tried it on the computer. I quite enjoyed 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12 and Tactics.
Orlandu = hell yes. We need his class in WoW. Balance issues? Now you're gonna see some real balance issues.

I'm not sure of the terminology. Final Fantasy 3 on the SNES is 6 listed here, right?
I mostly agree with your listing here. I only played up to FF 8, which I didn't complete, as the annoying emo anime bullshit characters was making my gag reflex go crazy. Also, I don't understand why you list the original as the least favourite. Sure, the graphics and story weren't that great by the followup standards, but it redefined an entire genre and saved Square Soft from bankruptcy.
And I feel Chrono Trigger deserves a mention here, for being a frackin' awesome game.

A few comments.
I've played FF11, it has the potential to be a fun game and its pretty as hell. The base mechanics are fucking awsome, imagine making one character that can level in all classes then multiclass after lvl 21. Being able to just basically respec into another class at anytime was very fun. Also, the Mog house was alot of fun, its just nice to have your own little space in game to do with as you will. What the sucked about the game was zero solo content, brutal level grinding, and fucking XP loss on death. But hey, if you're willing to smash your dick with a hammer you get access to alot of pretty eye candy and some fun mechanics.
My favorite FF would probally be Tactics, no other game aside from Wow has pulled me in for so long and so many hours, I have multiple 100+ hour play throughs on that game. Aside from that I like most of the other games, I haven't beat 12 but I guess I could go back and clear it some day, I just don't really care to. I loved FF9 for the old school feel and having your main character be a theif was just fun. FF7 was Ok, but Cloud is a cock and FF8 was ok, but Squall just needed to Slash Wrist and get it over with. (the airship was fucking awsome though) I really liked FF10, you had a main character who wasn't emo or a prick, he was just a decent guy and kinda fun. FFX-2 was a guilty pleasure, the costume swapping is silly but it actually makes for a decent combat system. I haven't played too much of the old FFs, I did like 4,5, and 6 though. And Revenant Wings was ok, just not that great.
Oh, and Crono Trigger fucking kicks ass.

Yes, Ruz. FF6 did = FF3 for Snes. That has to do with the way the numbering worked. Ya see... they released FF1 in Japan. It went well so they translated it and released FF to the North American market. Then FF2 and FF3 didnt do so well in Japan - they were deemed not strong enough for translation. FF4 was an incredible game, so when it was translated and released here it was numbered 2 because it was the second game released here. Then FF5 came out in Japan (it eventually did here, but much later) FF6 came out in Japan and was translated into the North American market as Final Fantasy3. Finally, the Playstation was introduced and they decided to drop the numbering bullshit and Final Fantasy 7 became Final Fantasy 7.
As for the rest of your comments: 1) FF8 was a lot better than most people give it credit for, IMO. Try it again sometime. 2) FF1 was a great game. See note about loving all of them (esp at thier own time) However by comparison ect it had to go lower. 3) Chronotrigger is an awesome game, im even playing the DS version atm when I pull myself away from WoW (up to 4 endings now) and if I had decided to make a Squaresoft thread as opposed to a Final Fantasy thread it surely would have gotten the accolades it deserves.

Gunblade lolz. Worst weapon evar. EVAR. Why doesn't he just fucking shoot people, instead of the need for the extreme pistol whip? 2. As a DW fanboi, I thought the DW series on the NES was grossly superior to all the FF NES games....the SNES was the turning point for Square imo. 3. If we are doing a direct comparison, I prefer ChronoTrigger to FF6. In the giant scheme of single player RPGs, the only superior games to Chronotrigger are Morrowind/Oblivion, and maybe Xenogears (although I also have a soft spot for the incredibly dated Wizardry games on the PC).

Just to take things completely off topic, has anyone else ever played the Lunar games (Originally for the Sega CD) on the PSone?

Bad Mirka! No hijacking my thread for a completely offtopic question. I mean... Yes, I played and greatly enjoyed both Lunar games for playstaion. I like the naughty pictures of the female characters you could get thoughout the games, and I firmly believe that all small winged annoying cats should be dragons. While we are offtopic - Legend of Legaia is also very worth checking out, Chrono Trigger has been covered, The only Dragon Warrior I got really into was Dragon Warrior VII (but its pretty darn good), Breath of Fire series had a different feel but was still worth playing... I played and kinda enjoyed games like Shadowrun and Phantasy Star.... ooooh cant forget the two Lufia games... and there are a couple more tickling the back of my brain that I can't quite pull to the front right now.
But, back on topic, how about that Golden Chocobo, eh?

RuhRoh, first we had a loser talk about "Top Gun" nonsense, then a pretty girl insulted us. Quickly someone post something relevant to the topic and dont let the thread die.

You should pick up the Sonic Ultimate Collection for the PS3, it has all the Shining Force games and all the Phantasy Star game among many others.

I hadnt even heard about that... shows how out of touch Ive gotten with consoles. Another reason to hate WoW. Seriously, this game is killing me.
On a brighter note... I just ordered that game, and
Mirkas reputation with the Jbean faction increased by 250.
